Program details and how to apply:
The T-TRIPODS DIAMONDS Summer Research program invites undergraduate students to participate in a 10-week summer research immersion experience designed to 1) connect students to faculty mentors with active data science research projects, 2) provide students with valuable mentored, hands-on research training that will build their confidence to conduct research and to design their own research projects in the future, and 3) encourage students to pursue graduate education.

Program Participation includes:

  • Match with a Faculty Research Mentor
  • A Stipend
  • Meals and Housing accommodations: Additional allowance for meals and on-campus housing to financial aid students who will be in person on campus.
  • Professional development workshops
  • Social Events

DIAMONDS Faculty Mentors:

We ask for names of possible Tufts faculty working on data science projects who you might be interested in working with on our application, and you are welcome to list the names of any Tufts faculty working in data science whose research interests you. A good list to start from is the lists of "core" and "application domain" faculty on the Tripods website at https://tripods.tufts.edu/people/core-faculty and https://tripods.tufts.edu/people/domain-expert-faculty.

Please note that DIAMONDS will be making the research project match to a mentor (possibly one you don't list), but we ask for your list because it does help us get an idea of your interests and make a good match. Faculty mentors who supervised students in 2020, 2021 or 2023 included:

  • Laurie Baise; Tufts University, School of Engineering, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering
  • Remco Chang, Tufts University School of Engineering, Department of Computer Science
  • Lenore Cowen, Tufts University School of Engineering, Department of Computer Science
  • Soha Hassoun; Tufts University, School of Engineering, Department of Computer Science
  • Xiaozhe Hu, Tufts University, School of Arts and Sciences, Mathematics
  • Mike Hughes, Tufts University, School of Engineering, Department of Computer Science
  • James Intriligator; Tufts University, School of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering
  • Misha Kilmer, Tufts University, School of Arts and Sciences, Mathematics
  • Valencia Koomson; Tufts University, School of Engineering, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering
  • Kyongbum Lee; Tufts University, School of Engineering, Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering
